Transverse Sections and Bar Marks

The concrete column schedule shows the unique set of transverse sections that occur in the 3D model. A transverse section represents a combination of a column section (e.g. “18x20”) and a pattern of parallel and transverse steel reinforcement bars.

Transverse sections information displayed in concrete column schedules includes:
  1. Bar Mark – a callout designating type of transverse section.
  2. Section Legend – summary of the different patterns of perpendicular reinforcement sections at each bar mark.

Each column in the schedule is assigned a bar mark. The bar mark (e.g. “T2”) represents the type of reinforcement present in the column. Each bar mark in the schedule is also shown in the Section Legend with a graphical representation of the column section and the reinforcement. The bar mark is formed from the Bar Mark prefix as set in the Graphical Column Schedule Settings - Concrete Column Schedule tab with the addition of a sequence number. The bar mark is shown at the midpoint of the column, offset to the left.

The Section Legend is placed below the primary schedule table. The section legend contains an entry for each bar mark that depicts the cross-section of the column and the reinforcement.

For each bar mark, the column section, parallel reinforcement and perpendicular reinforcement are shown.

The concrete reinforcement that is considered in the classification of the sections have the following reinforcement properties:
Properties Included Properties Excluded
Column Section Perpendicular Spacing
Parallel Reinforcement type Bar Designation
Perpendicular Reinforcement type Bar Material Strength
Bar Positions Hooks
Bar Shapes Layout Path
Note: For example, two columns that use the same section (e.g. “18x20”) and have similar reinforcement except for the spacing of the perpendicular ties will both have the same bar mark because the perpendicular spacing is excluded. Similarly, columns that have identical reinforcement except the columns are different lengths will also have the same bar mark because the layout path is excluded.
